Life in the Fast Lane

I don't know how I do it, I really don't. After another day, trying to single-handedly rescue the failing British economy, I've come home and spent the evening painting my nails. I bet you wish you had my life, don't you?

I spent a couple of days oop North with the Viking, which was lovely. He's doing well and is really coming in to his own at work now; it's great seeing the way his confidence has grown. I think the Service is lucky to have him. Despite our change in circumstances, it was good to see him and spend some time away from my flat and city.

On the drive back home I had the time to start thinking about my New Year's Resolutions. Normally, I avoid making them because I know I'll just carry on as normal. This coming year, it's time to do something different. I'm setting myself some goals and I intend, with your help (as in nagging and encouragement) I'll achieve them.

I know round is a shape, and a very nice one at that, but I'd really like to lose a stone. I would like to become a lot fitter as well. To that end, I have purchased myself a tankini (keeps the wobbly bits in check) and I intend to go swimming a couple times a week. I'm also going to pick up the exercise dvds again. As you know, I don't do gyms, I find them way too scary, and I have a good exercise dvd collection, so I have no reason not to start working out regularly.

Boots always say 'change one thing', rather than try to make wholesale changes. So my one thing this coming month will be to move more. Salsa, swimming and regular workouts. Once those are happening, then I'll look at the diet thing.

I've put it out there...I can't wuss out of it now.

What are your New Year's Resolutions? Tell me and I can be your cheerleader, as you become mine. Together we can do it!*

*perhaps I've been watching too much Dr Phil?

Wishes for Christmas

For those of you working over the festive time - I hope your time in work isn't too Interesting, clients/customers not too taxing and you aren't too far away from friends and family waiting to spoil you rotten.

For the rest of you not working - I hope your time is spent laughing a lot with friends and family and you are either spoilt or are treating others and/or yourself to good food, decent drink and rubbish telly.

Lots of love to you all.

James Taylor - Fire and Rain (Beacon Theatre)

This is the sublime to counteract the previous ridiculous.

Enjoy.

Lyrics 101

I've been listening to Kiss FM quite a lot recently. The borrowed sporty car doesn't have a CD player, and I'd sooner drink lye to listen to Radio 1, so Kiss FM is the next sane choice. Before you start - no, I don't listen to Radio 4, I know it makes me look entirely without street cred, but I don't. You'll just have to accept that about me, I'm afraid.

Kiss FM is mainly R&B, with some good dance chucked in occasionally, which suits me fine mostly. However, as I've been driving along, I've realised that there are some song writers who I'd like to give a couple of hours a week creative writing lessons.

These are the lyrics to Forever as sung by Chris Brown.

It's you and me
Moving at the speed of light into eternity
Tonight is the night
To join me in the middle of ecstasy

*Warning. Warning. Cliche Alert*

Okay. I hold my hand up and hang my head in shame. My name is Roses and I used to write in cliches. I have been cliche free now for 1095 days. It was hard work, humiliating at times. But I stuck with the 10 step programme and now, I'm free.

Did the writer of this garbage find a book of cliches, go through them at random and create a song?

I'd join you in the middle of ecstasy, only my sat nav has me sitting in down town Dulwich.

Tonight is the night for....laundry? hair washing? nail polish? oh sex...ummm...sorry no can do tonight, how about next Tuesday, 10.30 okay for you?

Then there's Britney. Never one of life's most meaningful songstress. But while I could sing quite contentedly (behind closed doors) to Toxic, Womanizer is just plain ridiculous. Behold the chorus -

Womanizer, woman-womanizer
You're a womanizer
Oh, womanizer, oh
You're a womanizer, baby

I just keep thinking - 'so what?' You're a washed up, redneck, who is hardly what one would call, umm...moral, righteous or even, in good taste. Who the fuck are you to call a guy a womanizer? Who cares? Especially, as on the video, our virginal, above reproach Britney is writhing around a steam room seat, wearing nothing but baby oil and sweat.

I wonder if her song-writer had ever heard of 'double-standards' or 'hypocrisy'?

The Next Big Thing

On my news trawl this morning I found an article and knew I had to share.

Follow the link and let me know if you're going to buy the fragrance for yourself (if you're a bloke) or for the men in your life (or if you're a woman).

Let me know if you're tempted - please? I could do with a laugh.

Syncronicity

Last night, Bear and his lovely took me to see the Mediaeval Baebes. We queued in the drizzle and wind for 20 mins before the Keepers of the Doors in Norwich Cathedral decided we'd been punished enough. Fortunately, Bear is a man of great foresight and may angels bless the steps he place upon this Earth - he brought hand warmers! There is nothing, nothing I tell you, so blissfull as being cold and wet and having a warm handwarmer shoved down your cleavage.

Mind you, blessings must go to the Stewards who served strong, hot mulled wine. Between the handwarmer and the mulled wine, I thawed out enough to really appreciate the Baebes. I've tried to convince You Tube to play their 'clubbed' version of Aria below. Hopefully, it'll play and you'll be able to enjoy it. They are really good fun. Even if they do take their dancing a little too seriously and their intro-patter is somewhat annoying. However, that said, they sound great and look fantastic.

This post is entitled 'syncronicity' which according to Wikipedia, the God of free information online, is about events which are not related to cause and effect, but which when looked at, have meaning.

Ten years ago, I was in post-relationship recovery. The relationship was a rebound from my marriage and it ended quite badly. I was growing closer to a group of people who would become the bedrock of my life. I went to see the Mediaeval Baebes promote their second album Worldes Blysse with someone who would become a friend and lover and at whose wedding I danced at earlier this year.

Ten years later, I am also in post-relationship recovery. It seems the last ten years have not been wasted. I make better decisions regarding men and although part of my relationship with the Viking has come to an end, our friendship has not. Briefly, we are at different stages in our lives, and when two people have different goals, and compromise is not an option, I took Sting's advice.

Delerium - Aria

A 'clubbed' version of a gig I went to last night. Superb.

Bank Holiday Sunday

Dear Dave I woke up today with Philip Glass' Metamorphosis in my head. It's apt really as it was part of the music chosen for your...
